Bedliner / Paint Prepper Technician Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Prep-Focused)
- Review work orders, bills of materials, and blueprints to understand prep requirements and priorities.
- Sand, scuff, grind, and/or blast surfaces to create proper profile and adhesion for bedliner/undercoating/paint systems.
- Mask and tape bodies/parts to protect non-coated areas and ensure clean lines and coverage boundaries.
- Clean and prep surfaces by removing debris, dust, oils/contaminants, and old coatings as required.
- Verify surfaces are ready for application (smoothness/profile, cleanliness, edge prep, and overall readiness).
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively (sanders, grinders, media blasting equipment where applicable, and related prep tools).
- Support quality standards by checking prep work for defects that could impact finish (scratches, contamination, missed masking, poor adhesion risk).
- Dispose of waste and hazardous materials in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Follow safety requirements at all times, including use of respirators, suits, and other required PPE.
- Document work by completing production and quality forms as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Participate in continuous improvement by offering suggestions to improve prep quality, efficiency, and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Bedliner / Paint Prepper Technician Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Frequent mobility and/or prolonged standing; bending/stooping for extended periods.
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift/carry up to 75 lbs.
- Work in areas that may not be ventilated or air-conditioned.
- Regular exposure to chemicals, solvents, dust, and particulate matter (including sanding/blasting environments).
- Requires hand-eye coordination and manual/finger dexterity for tools and detailed masking work.
- May require working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
- Hearing within normal range required.
Bedliner / Paint Prepper Technician Required Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Automotive paint prep experience required (surface prep, sanding, masking, taping; blasting experience strongly preferred if applicable).
- Valid Drivers license - Clean MVR
- Some technical training is helpful.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing clean, consistent prep work.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and related equipment.
- Ability to operate a forklift if required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with shifting demands.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
- Ability to work well with all levels of employees and communicate effectively.
- Ability to successfully complete a respirator medical evaluation.
- Ability to pass a general abilities assessment and post-offer background check, physical, and drug screen.
- Monday - Friday 6am-2:30pm
- Pay: $18 - $20+ per hour based on experience
- Location: West Bottoms Kansas City, Missouri
