This unique opportunity allows you to strengthen Kansas’s capacity to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies by supporting volunteer coordination, training, and strategic planning. You’ll help design and improve systems that train, plan for, and deploy emergency response volunteers in collaboration with local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units across the state.
In this fully remote, high-impact role, you’ll work directly with local and state partners to update emergency plans, enhance volunteer engagement, and ensure that communities remain ready to respond when public health challenges arise.
Key Responsibilities

Lead statewide efforts to plan for and coordinate volunteer emergency response activities, ensuring readiness within public health frameworks.

Develop, update, and refine emergency preparedness and response plans, incorporating best practices from other state programs.

Collaborate virtually with five local MRC units to assess training needs, organize educational sessions, and support the development of a new statewide volunteer unit.

Organize and deliver virtual and in-person training and recognition events, including a statewide volunteer summit for approximately 125 volunteers.
Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in emergency volunteer management, public health preparedness, or disaster response coordination.

Proven ability to write, update, and implement emergency response or preparedness plans.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills; able to collaborate effectively across agencies such as MRC, Red Cross, and state/local health departments.

Experience coordinating and facilitating training or deployment of volunteers in a public health or emergency response setting.
