Controls Engineer

 The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, and supporting industrial control systems used in manufacturing operations. This role focuses on automation reliability, continuous improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production systems.


Controls Engineer Salary: $90,000 annually

Key Responsibilities

  • Control System Design & Programming
    Design, configure, program, and test PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to meet production and operational requirements.

  • Equipment Troubleshooting & Support
    Diagnose and resolve issues related to automated equipment, control systems, and electrical components to minimize downtime.

  • Process Improvement & Automation
    Support automation initiatives and continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing efficiency, reliability, and waste reduction.

  • Technical Documentation
    Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and system operation documentation.

  • Vendor & Project Coordination
    Source control components, obtain vendor quotes, recommend suppliers, and assist with installation and commissioning of control systems.

  • Safety & Compliance
    Ensure all control systems comply with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Maintenance Team Support
    Provide technical guidance, training, and troubleshooting support to maintenance technicians and operations staff.

Qualifications

  • Education
    Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or a related field. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

  • Experience
    1–2 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or industrial manufacturing environments.

  • Technical Skills
    Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial troubleshooting.

  • Software Proficiency
    Experience with AutoCAD for electrical or panel design and Microsoft Office tools for documentation.

  • Problem-Solving Skills
    Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a structured approach to resolving technical challenges.

  • Communication & Collaboration
    Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead technical initiatives.
