Essential Job Functions
- Leads Quality Control Operations: Directs all aspects and staff of the quality control lab, ensuring product quality objectives are met through awareness of plant operations and process conditions.
- Ensures Staff Proficiency: Trains lab assistants, operators, and plant operators on equipment use, understanding test results, quality control tests, and proper field sampling techniques.
- Manages Lab Equipment & Protocols: Oversees the operation of diverse lab equipment (e.g., HPLC, refractometers, titrometers) and establishes rigorous testing protocols for repeatable and accurate results.
- Oversees Lab Safety & Compliance: Leads lab safety programs, participates in and enforces PSM and PHA throughout the facility, maintains safety information and MSDS sheets, and completes all required compliance reports.
- Manages Lab Resources & Support: Maintains lab inventory of equipment and chemicals, coordinates special testing, and communicates with suppliers for service, pricing, and technical support.
- Supports Broader Operations: Assists in research and development, contributes to hiring and performance reviews for lab personnel, and maintains confidentiality and a positive team environment.
Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is required; equivalent work experience may be substituted.
- Experience: Must have laboratory operations experience, preferably in the ethanol industry, and a background in developing and managing safety programs and regulations. Experience with Food Safety, HACCP, and related programs is a plus.
- Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to lead and direct both lab and plant staff effectively.
- Key Skills: Possesses strong communication, organizational, and time management skills, with a keen eye for detail and computer proficiency.
- Physical Requirements:
Capable of wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as the job demands.
