The Steel Structure Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, assembly, and alignment of pre-engineered and conventional steel building systems. This role requires hands-on experience with structural steel framing, metal panels, and trim, as well as the ability to safely operate aerial lifts and material-handling equipment. Technicians must be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and equipped with the required personal tools to perform work efficiently at elevation and ground level.


Steel Structure Installation Technician Pay Rate: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour (based on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Field-Based


Key Responsibilities

  • Install structural steel components including columns, beams, purlins, girts, and bracing systems.

  • Perform steel framing installation for pre-engineered and conventional steel structures.

  • Install metal wall panels, roofing systems, and trim components as required.

  • Align, level, plumb, and secure steel members using appropriate tools and equipment.

  • Read and follow basic blueprints, erection drawings, and installation instructions.

  • Safely operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, and all-terrain forklifts.

  • Perform bolting, torqueing, and fastening operations to specification.

  • Maintain jobsite organization, tool accountability, and material control.

  • Follow OSHA regulations, fall protection requirements, and site-specific safety plans.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members to support safe and efficient operations.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ironwork, steel erection, or pre-engineered metal building installation.

  • Proven experience with steel framing installation (pre-engineered or conventional).

  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools used in steel construction.

  • Basic equipment operation experience, including:

    • Boom lifts

    • Scissor lifts

    • All-terrain forklifts

    • OSHA 10 certification required .

    • Ability to work at heights and in varying outdoor conditions.

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.


      Preferred / Additional Skills

      • Basic blueprint and erection drawing reading.

      • Metal panel and trim installation experience.

      • Roofing system installation experience.

      Note: Technicians must have all required personal tools on-site and in their possession as outlined below. Tools marked with (*) are provided but must still be carried and used as required. Tools not carried in tool pouches must be kept in a jobsite tool bag (not in a personal vehicle).

      • Utility knife

      • Hammer

      • 1” wood chisel

      • Channel locks

      Roofing Tools

      • Paint or gasket scraper

      • Nail set

      • Small ½” drive impact (MR24 roof) *

      Trimming / Walling Tools

      • Red and green offset snips

      • Chalk line

      • Nail set

      • Torpedo level

      • Paint or gasket scraper

      • Irwin 21711 clamps

      Steel Installation Tools

      • Bull pin *

      • Beater *

      • ¾” and 7/8” sockets with adapters

      • Two (2) 6R clamps

      • Sleever bar *

      • Torpedo level

      • Appropriate size wrench *

      • Large ½” or ¾” impact with appropriate sockets


      Physical & Work Environment Requirements

      • Ability to lift, carry, and handle steel components and tools.

      • Ability to work at heights using fall protection.

      • Ability to stand, climb, kneel, and work in outdoor environments for extended periods.

      • Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toe work boots.


      Additional Requirements

      • Candidates must supply their own hand tools , deep well tool pouches , and safety-toe work boots .

      • Reliable transportation to job sites.

      • Willingness to travel to project locations as required.
